Dave Galloway still lives in Medicine Hat. Not sure if he visits this site though.

Anybody out there from the Suffield MP Section who can take this on.

Let's not forget this fine gentleman who died on his first day of duty.

Good Morning,

I just added up the number on views on this post and it now stands at about 2,500. Someone took the time to erect a memorial to remember Cpl Gibson and now this memorial needs to be repaired. Is this memorial any differant than the memorial at the MP Academy in Borden? For those of yopu who have served with combat arms regiment or have a family member that did, is this how they would have looked after Stephen if he was one of their fallen??

Regards,

Bob

Bob - to answer your question - NO, Stephen Gibson has not and will not be forgotten by this branch. As a matter of fact I am presently working with his family on having them awarded the Sacrifice medal and the Memorial Crosses.
In relation to his memorial, I spoke to the WO at CFB Shilo last year when this post was initiated and he had contacted Roads and Grounds and requested that they maintain the memorial to which they stated they would. I just spoke to him again today and he is personally driving out to check the memorial and if it is not up to the standard required for a memorial of this nature, he will personally go and speak to the supervisor of the Roads and Grounds section.

More to follow once he gets back to me

Hi,

I received the following e mail yesterday from CWO Day in regards to Cpl Gibson's Memorial. WO Terry Charette, WO IC Suffield MP Detachment took the bull by the horns and has made sure the memorials to Cpl Gibson (yes there are now two memorials) at CFB Suffield are maintained. Attached below at sub paras A and B is an update on this issue from WO Charette to CWO Day. Also attached are photos taken by WO Charette.

a) I attended the site of the Memorial Cross today following our phone conversation. The grass surrounding the site was mowed on 26 Jul 10 and is on a regular schedule for cutting. The wood was recently stained and is in good repair, the rocks are clear of any weeds and the cross itself was rectnly painted by Sgt Onyett from our office. I took several photgraphs and have attached for your viewing. I also included photos of the actual Cairn which is erected outside the Base HQ and also contains a plaque dedicated to Cpl Gibson.

b) This Memorial is attended to on a regular basis, if maintenance requirements exist we simply ask the Roads and Grounds Sect at Base Engineering and they will complete.

Lets make it this a tradition, if you're in the area or passing by Suffield please stop by to pay your respects to Cpl Gibson.

Regards,

Bob Smith
